I’m Janet Spaulding, Founder of Summer Shade Senior Advisors. This work is personal to me—not only professionally, but deeply human.

​

Over the years, I’ve supported my own family members through hospice and end-of-life care, including my beloved mother-in-law, who lived with severe dementia. Sitting on the family side of the table showed me just how overwhelming senior living decisions can be—especially when emotions are high, time feels limited, and clear guidance is missing.

​

Those experiences reinforced what my professional work inside senior living communities had already taught me: families need someone who truly understands how senior living works, explains options honestly, respects urgency when it exists, and helps them move forward with clarity instead of fear.

Collectively, we bring years of experience working directly inside senior living community operations, sales, nursing-based support, and day-to-day care environments. This gives us insight into how communities truly function—beyond brochures and marketing language—and how care needs, staffing, and services evolve over-time.

Age-in-place senior living communities are designed to support residents as care needs change over time. This often allows individuals to remain within the same community—or campus—as they transition from Independent Living to Assisted Living, and in some cases to Memory Care or Skilled Nursing.

For residents, especially those living with dementia or cognitive decline, staying in a familiar environment with consistent caregivers and routines can make a meaningful difference in comfort and well-being. For families, it reduces unnecessary moves, emotional disruption, and long-term stress.

We offer personalized senior living consultations to individuals and families throughout the United States.

These consultations are often the first step. They give us time to listen carefully, understand your situation, and provide clear guidance—without requiring you to spend countless hours researching on your own.

Before we meet, you’ll complete a detailed intake form so we can make the most of our time together. During our conversation, we help you:

• Understand appropriate levels of care

• Clarify realistic options and next steps

• Align care needs with budget considerations

• Avoid common and costly mistakes

• Move forward with clarity and confidence

Consultations can include multiple family members, ensuring everyone hears the same information and feels aligned.

Senior Living Placement Coordination

​

For families in select markets, we also provide hands-on senior living placement coordination.

​

Rather than overwhelming you with endless options, we help narrow the focus to a small number of carefully selected communities that align with care needs, preferences, and budget. We coordinate communication, support tours, and help families evaluate fit clearly and thoughtfully.

Our role is to bring structure, perspective, and calm to what can otherwise feel rushed and confusing.
