FAQ's

Who do we serve?

We serve individuals and families in the United States who are navigating senior living decisions for themselves or someone they love. Most families come to us feeling overwhelmed, unsure where to begin, or concerned about making a decision that could significantly impact quality of life, finances, and family dynamics. Our role is to bring clarity, confidence, and direction to this important transition.

What makes Summer Shade Senior Advisors different?

Senior living decisions are complex, emotional, and often time-sensitive. Without experienced guidance, families can spend months touring inappropriate communities, misunderstand levels of care, or make costly decisions that lead to unnecessary moves and added stress. We provide independent, expert senior living guidance so families can make informed decisions efficiently, avoid common mistakes, and move forward with confidence.

What is your approach when working with families?

We listen first. Every family’s circumstances, dynamics, concerns, and financial realities are different. Before offering guidance, we take time to understand the full picture — including health considerations, emotional stressors, timelines, family roles, and budget concerns. This allows us to provide thoughtful, realistic recommendations that are aligned with what matters most to the future resident and their family.

What services do you provide?

We provide independent senior living advisory and placement services. Our work includes helping families understand senior living options, determine the appropriate level of care, evaluate communities, prepare for tours, and make informed decisions that support both current and future needs. We act as advocates for families — not representatives for senior living communities.

What types of senior living and care do you help with?

We guide families across the full continuum of senior living and care, including Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, Skilled Nursing, Palliative Care, and Hospice-related transitions. We help families understand how care needs evolve and how to plan in a way that minimizes disruption, stress, and unnecessary moves.

We don’t know what level of care is needed. Is that a problem?
Not at all. This is one of the most common reasons families reach out.  We help assess care needs, safety considerations, and likely progression so families can make informed decisions rather than guessing or reacting in crisis.

What if dementia or Alzheimer’s disease is involved?

We have extensive experience supporting families navigating cognitive decline. Multiple members of our team are Certified Dementia & Alzheimer’s Practitioners, and our guidance reflects both clinical insight and internal senior living operations experience. We help families understand memory care options, safety considerations, progression, and how to plan with dignity and compassion.

What is your philosophy on senior living choices?

Whenever possible, we prioritize age-in-place communities — environments designed to support changing needs over time. Reducing unnecessary moves supports emotional well-being, continuity, and quality of life. When specialized care is required, we help families understand why and guide them thoughtfully through the next steps.

Do you offer virtual consultations?

Yes. All consultations begin virtually and are available to individuals and families anywhere in the United States. Virtual consultations allow us to provide thoughtful, focused guidance regardless of location and ensure families receive expert support without delay.

What happens before and after a consultation?

Before each consultation, families complete a detailed intake form that allows us to understand their circumstances in advance, including family dynamics, care concerns, emotional considerations, and practical or financial factors. This ensures our time together is focused, productive, and meaningful.

After the consultation, families receive a detailed written summary that includes key insights, personalized recommendations, suggested next steps, and specific questions to ask when evaluating senior living communities.

Do you provide local placement services?

Yes. For families in the Louisville Metro Area, we provide comprehensive local placement services. The process begins with a virtual consultation. From there, we identify appropriate senior living communities, schedule tour appointments, and accompany families on tours. We help evaluate each community against the specific needs, preferences, and long-term goals of the future resident and assist in matching the best possible community.

Is there a cost for local placement services?

Local placement services are provided at no cost to families who choose a community we have recommended and toured together. Our guidance remains independent and centered on helping families make the right decision.

Are your recommendations unbiased?

Yes. We are not owned by, employed by, or affiliated with any senior living community. Our recommendations are independent and based solely on the best interests of the future resident. Our role is to advocate for families, not to promote specific communities.

How do your services save families time, money, and stress?

Families often lose valuable time and money by touring inappropriate communities, misunderstanding care levels, or making decisions that result in additional moves. Our guidance helps families focus on the right options sooner, avoid costly missteps, and make confident decisions without unnecessary trial and error.

Do you provide medical, legal, or financial advice?
No. We do not provide medical advice, legal advice, or financial advice. Our services are educational and advisory in nature and are designed to support informed conversations with healthcare providers, attorneys, and financial professionals.
